Following months of intense research to locate the best-run companies on the planet, the final short list is taking shape. Now the fun part begins - going out and meeting the companies to find how they do what they do so well. Initial interviews have been completed with CEOs of Petco (San Diego, CA), DotFoods (Mount Sterling, IL), SAS (Cary, NC), Medline (Mundelein, IL), O'Reilly Automotive (Springfield, MO) and Strayer University (Arlington, VA). Interviews have been going incredibly well, packed with insights and themes to be woven into the final manuscript for Jason's third book, to be released on the Penguin Putnam label in January 2005. In weeks to come the Research Team will visit six other companies, including Sonic Drive-In (Oklahoma City, OK) and Koch Industries (Wichita, KS).
